F.A.Q

Q. What is the main difference between the Boréale and Amazone lines of products ?
The wood’s treatment. The Amazone line is made with heat treated wood as for the Boréale line is made of ACQ under pressure treated wood.

Q. What is ACQ ?
ACQ is a copper base chemical product approved by the authorities which once applied, gives a green colour and a protection against rotting and termites.

Q. What is the heat treatment ?
This treatment which is called high temperature treated wood consist of heating the wood at high temperature ( 205 degrees Celsius ) to eliminates the nutritive elements in the wood and to give it a protection against bio-deterioration. Another advantage is that it gives a nice dark coloration to the wood similar to the Canadian western red cedar.

Q. What are the main factor of degradation that can affect the wood ?
There are 3 types such as the springing, the weathering and the bio-degradation.

Q. Can you explain the causes of deterioration factors ?
The springing is caused by contraction’s successive effects due to the variations in the level of the humidity. The weathering is a result of the wood’s photo-oxidation provoked by the sun’s ultra violet rays. Finally, the bio-degradation commonly called rotting is caused by micro-organisms ( fungus ) feeding themselves on these nutritive elements which are in the wood.

Q. In what environment can we find fungus ?
To survive, these micro-organisms needs an environment rich in humidity, heat, air and also minerals which they feed on.

Q. How can an Aqua Bois pool resist to bio-degradation ?
Because of the chemical or heated treatment that was given to the wood the pool was made of and the proper installation.

Q. What is a proper installation ?
You need to drain the water around the pool’s area to prevent humidity and make sure that the wood doesn’t come in contact with the soil to prevent the nutritive elements to migrate with time towards the wood.

Q. Aqua Bois uses sand for its installation, why ?
Because sand drains well and doesn’t have any nutritive elements. Also sand moulds perfectly itself to the pool when it’s compacted.

Q. Why do you recommend a perforated drain in the semi in ground installation ?
For a better drainage around the pool in order to reduce the pressure on the walls of the pool and under the liner during heavy rain and thaw.

Q. Why is it important to pour concrete over the strut’s supports of semi in ground oval models ?
To prevent, in adding weight, the strait walls of lifting under the pressure on the walls.

Q. Before digging, how to make sure that there aren’t any electrical wires or underground pipes ?
In Québec, you can call INFO-EXCAVATION at 1-800-663-9228 for free information.

Q. What measures can we take to reduce any risk of bio-degradation after the installation ?
The most important measure is to avoid contact with dirt by leaving 12 inches space around the pool. Choose a landscape design that uses materials like stones.

Q. What’s the maintenance of the pool ?
Simply apply a protection on the wood like all other wood exposed to rough weather.

Q. What product do you recommend for the maintenance of the pool ?
We recommend an oil semi-transparent stain. The stain will give your pool a waterproof protection which will significantly reduce springing and the colour pigmentation will reduce the effect of the sun’s ultra-violet rays.

Q. How often do you recommend the application of the semi-transparent stain?
For better results, every 3 years on the walls and once a year on the top rails.

Q. What’s the difference between an above and semi inground round pool?
None. Only the installation is different.

Q. What difference is there between an above or semi in ground oval pool ?
There are important differences in the fabrication of these 2 models. The oval above ground model with straps and flat bottom can be installed in an above or semi in ground design. But, the opposite can’t be done; the semi in ground oval design can not be installed above ground.

Q. We are planning to buy an Aqua Bois semi inground oval pool with a slope bottom. How deep does it have to be installed ?
The semi inground oval pool must be installed at 24 inches of dept minimum and 36 inches maximum. We think that for better result, your pool should be installed at 24 inches.

Q. We have a lot with an important slope which will imply that the pool will be above ground on one end and in ground at the other. Can we install an Aqua Bois pool?
Absolutely. Choose a round or oval above ground pool model. You will have to poor concrete under the struts of the oval model in the under ground section.

Q. What are the recommendations if we connect our deck to our above ground wood pool ?
First, take out the front screw of the seat caps because you will not be able to reach them after the construction of the deck. After, the deck must not be attached to the pool. Finally, put a blue Styrofoam on the ground under the deck and cover it with crush stone.

Q. Why put a Styrofoam under the deck ?
The absence of snow will caused the ground to frost in dept which could make the pool move. The Styrofoam will act as an insulating.

Q. Is it different to close an Aqua Bois ?
No. It is the same as a conventional pool.

Q. To what level do we have to empty our Aqua Bois pool ?
In an above ground installation, 18 inches under the water return and for a semi in ground pool, to the lowest point between ground level and the water level.

Q. When is the ideal time to close our Aqua Bois semi in ground pool ?
The heavy rain in autumn will soak the ground with water and create a pressure on the pool’s vertical walls. This pressure is cancelled by inverted pressure create by the weight of the water in the pool. We recommend not to lower the level of water too soon. Wait for the first signs of frost.

Q. Can we install a salt chlorine generator on an Aqua Bois pool ?
Yes, the Aqua Bois warranty still effective if the pool is equiped with a salt chlorine generator. The wood is not affected by salt and all steel components of our pools has been protected again corrosion.

Q. What is the risk of corrosion associated with salt chlorine generator ?
The salt is a corrosive element but the salt concentration required for those systems is low ; from 3000 to 4000 ppm only comparatively at 9000 ppm for the humain body and more than 25000 ppm for ocean water. With this low concentration, the salt is not corrosive. The problem of corrosion is especially caused buy the myth telling that is not necessary to check the PH balance with this type of system. A PH too high or a salt or chlore concentration too high will cause corrosion problems on metallic parts.
